Mallorca

Well, just back from Mallorca and it's flippping freezing again! We could not believe how good the weather was last week - it made it to16 or 17 most days and was even quite warm in the mountains.

The Barcelos Albatros hadn't changed much and the food was still very good. Nice room with a sea view this time (the view from the loo wasn't too bad either - that's the picture at the start of the Blog). We probably got down to 4 tables at dinner mid-week but it was heaving on Friday night. It was a good (and bad!) week to go as it was the festival of San Sebastian which meant that there were bonfires and fireworks scattered around, but it did mean that Palma was pretty much closed on Friday (the day we'd chosen to shop!) apart from thousands of cyclists doing a fun ride through the city.

We did finally see a decent market at Sineu on the Wednesday, with everything from undies to horses on sale, with all points between. A very good ham sandwich was obtained from one of the meat stalls and the local bakery did a very decent custard tart!

Quite a lot of the time seemed to be spent driving up windey roads to high things, but the views were great. Quite a bit of the island had shut up shop completely (Cala D'Or just needed tumbleweed for the complete effect) but Illetas was about 25% open, with the posh marina next door at Portals Nous almost fully open. S'Arenal now appears to contain most of the UK's pensioners, but it has to be said that they appeared to be having a pretty good time.

Although one trail we wanted to walk was closed for the week we did get in some decent walks, particularly from Port de Soller back up to Soller through the orange and lemon groves and down from Deia to the tiny little cove at Cala Deia. The walks seem to be much better marked in that area so we'll try that area again. All in all it was a super break and we'll certainly do it again.

There are a few photos on the Flickr site ... no filters or adjustments made, the sky was that good!

Finally, I think the following should get these local 'Gattos' kicked out of the feline hunting community ....
